That's just so sad she's still in limbo. Poor Kerry :s_cry

I guess it was the discovery of that toy (confirmed by Kerry as Ben's) that makes it very highly likely police are on the right lines.

Feel desperately sorry for Kerry, of course.

Still can't help feeling there's something slightly awry with announcing something as devastating as the police did when you don't have the tangible evidence to support it.

Well I think they just said this is their belief. I mean I suppose the options were that Ben was abducted and either kept or killed, Ben wandered away and an accident befell him in such a situation that meant his body was not found, or his family were involved in his disappearance.

No evidence came forward to implicate his family in anything and they have kept his case alive for decades. Like the McCanns if they wanted it to not be investigated all they had to do was keep quiet.

No evidence came forward to suggest an abductor had been in the area. It was in the middle of no where not somewhere someone would just happen across. There were no sightings other than "blonde child" but we have seen that any time Roma have a blond child people accuse them of having kidnapped it. I think there may be a lax attitude towards adoption within Roma communities so that people leave children with other families but I don't think there are any modern cases of Roma people grabbing strangers children off the street.

But Ben wandered off and a proper search was not done for five hours, he was right by a building site where a digger was working, he liked cars had a yellow car and would likely have been interested in the big yellow digger, it was dusty, no one told the driver he was there, rubble was being picked up and moved. It was very very hot. It would be incredibly easy for Ben to have been crushed and then picked up with the rubble and there to have been little to find within a very short time, days even. It was not like there was a finger tip or forensic search and examination of the digger and site at the time. Given these facts and the fact they found his toy car there, I think the police are being entirely reasonable.

I think this is irresponsible reporting to be honest. It says the police think Ben was buried elsewhere but provided not a shred of evidence to back that statement up. What have the police done it said that implies they think he was buried elsewhere, they have not looked in private homes of the driver for example have they? It seems people are hearing police say Ben died there, hearing there was no body found and putting two and two together and getting five.

There is plenty to point to a shoddy investigation that wanted it closed quickly, but nothing to indicate an actual cover up. Yes someone lied about sleeping with Kerry, but that's the sort of spite these cases attract rather than an official cover up. Kerry was working at the time, so no one could have implicated her. The driver said he saw a white car but the owner of the car confirmed they were there.

It sounds to me that this article is taking the spite, gossip, rumour and vague memories that happen in virtually every criminal case and trying to shoehorn them into a conspiracy. I think after twenty five years of searching, claiming of abduction no one wants to believe it was a simple accident and after twenty five years there is nothing left to find. I know it's horrendous, but I read the article about Daniel Morecambe on another thread and the killer said when he returned to Daniel a week later he was a skeleton with bones scattered already. It was the height of an Australian summer, but Daniel was a teenager so not tiny, and the area was shaded and his body did not have opened wounds etc.

Let's face it a child unsupervised for several hours next to a building site with a digger in operation is going to be killed , it would be a massive coincidence for the child in those circumstances also to become victim to the Mafia or gypsies who just happened to be passing, kidnapped him and hid him in plain sight for twenty five years.

It's cruel for the media to keep trying to make this a criminal case. The family need closure, by which I mean they need to move out of limbo and come to terms with what happened and this loss and grieve. That won't happen if the media try to turn it into a conspiracy.

ETA, when I say unsupervised I don't mean to sound harsh, it's just that due to the confusion it ended up being hours before anyone properly looked.

The thing about being buried elsewhere is because the digger driver guy owned another site which he used as a dump for rubble etc. The rumour/confession seems to have involved that site. If he had been storing hardcore etc there and then using it on other sites..... Ben could be anywhere.
Scotland Yard detectives believe Madeleine was abducted in "a criminal act by a stranger"

No Janine you poor deluded muppet, I am NOT John Lowe.
And neither, thankfully, are you.

Had not thought of it being used in building works. That's horrendous. But I have heard Kerry Needham speak about how the police can't dig up everyone's gardens which makes me think she thinks he is hidden somewhere.

That is so sad, but I don't think there is any more truth to fight for, I think it's time to grieve and find some acceptance and remember him.

you know what, although I do think that would be for the best, and I would counsel anyone I loved the same, I don't actually think I could. The what iifs would torment me too much. What if an opportunistic abductor did just happen to be passing, what if there was some grudge with the owner and he was kidnapped by people who thought he was his relative etc. What if he still needs me and I have given up? If it was an accident and he did die, I hope to God the forensics find something.
