The Home Office has agreed to fund the hunt for missing Madeleine McCann until March next year.
Madeleine was three when she vanished while on holiday with her parents in Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast on May 3rd, 2007.
The Metropolitan Police applied for another £300,000 to continue the investigation in her disappearance into next year.
£11.75m has been spent to find Madeleine McCann since she disappeared in 2007.
The Home Office said today (June 5th, 2019), that while a final decision on figures would not be made until October, force chiefs could be reassured that a "similar" level of funding would be granted for 2019/2020 as in 2018/19, when £300,000 was given.
In blog on its website, the Home Office said:
All applications for Special Grant funding are considered carefully on their individual merits, however, decisions are made in batches to allow us to better consider the impact on the overall policing budget.
Due to this, the next round of Special Grant funding will not be decided until October, however we have written to Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in the meantime with assurance that the Metropolitan Police Service will receive a similar level of funding for Operation Grange for 2019/20 as it did for the previous year.
– THE HOME OFFICE
Scotland Yard launched its own investigation, Operation Grange, into her disappearance in 2013 after a Portuguese inquiry failed to make any headway.
Around £11.75 million has been spent by police to find Madeleine since she disappeared.

Re: FUNDING GRANTED
I want to hear, most, that there is no need of extra funding, because the case is solved.
OK. That's what I want to hear second-most.
I would love to hear most that Madeleine has been found, alive and well, and -- above all -- having been (relatively) well-treated in the 12 years since her abduction.
But we can't, always, have everything of all we want.
Dunno.
My summary, a guarded welcome at this news.

Re: FUNDING GRANTED
Surely they must still have leads to follow up if more funding is being given. I think this will be the final amount though I can't see them doing it indefinitely. It would be amazing if they solved her disappearance or better still find her.

Wonderful news
They wouldn't give funding unless there was something to investigate.

My thoughts too WR....plus isn't it double what they received last year?....Maybe, Hopefully, they have important and serious leads to follow.
I agree with you HB....that would be the best news ever....Madeleine being found.

Madeleine McCann- Abducted May 2007 from Praia Da Luz, Algarve, Portugal.
DCI Redwood of Scotland Yard - stated that Madeleine could still be found - alive.

Re: FUNDING GRANTED
It annoys me when people complain about getting more funding as if Madeleine is getting special treatment. It's only because she went missing abroad they have to do this. Have you ever heard the media talk about requests for funding in say the claudia Lawrence case?

I would think so.....they are unlikely to give the extra money....if nothing left to follow up.

Re: FUNDING GRANTED
The deviant brigade all seem to try to imply that there is only ever news about leads to generate new funding. This suspect has been investigated as "the suspect" for three years. Why do they think the met kept getting funding? It's because they knew they were onto something. So far the investigations into Madeleine's abduction, both private investigations and public, have uncovered a paedopjile ring, and discovered an individual more than likely responsible for two horrific rapes, being investigated for at least six child disappearances in three different countries, one murder of a teenager, and numerous sexual assaults on children in their holiday homes. I think that's worth a few millon to investigate if you ask me.

I agree with you and when you consider that the second wave at Casa Pia broke in 2002 (with a complaint from Germany) the scale of p*do activity in the area could be massive.scoobydoo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 2:52 pmThe deviant brigade all seem to try to imply that there is only ever news about leads to generate new funding.
