Poor girl and family, heart breaks for them.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The family of Nóra Quoirin, 15, whose mother Meabh is from Belfast and whose father Sebastien is French, have today released the following statement.

“Nóra is a very special person. She is fun, funny, and extremely loving. With her family, she is very affectionate - family is her whole world and she loves to play games, like Cat Bingo, with us. She likes to tell us silly jokes and wear clever, colourful t-shirts. She is not like other teenagers. She is not independent and does not go anywhere alone. Nóra was born with Holoprosencephaly; this means that she has a smaller brain. All her life she has spent a lot of time in hospital. When she was born, she needed operations to help her breathing. She has specialists that monitor her growth, her physical abilities and her strength, and especially her mental capacity. Nóra has always needed dedicated specialist educational provision, and now attends a school for children and young people with learning and communication difficulties.
Nóra and her family are bi-lingual and bi-cultural. Nóra is very proud that she can speak French as well as English. But her verbal communication is limited. Nóra can read like a young child, but she cannot write more than a few words. She has a good memory but she cannot understand anything conceptual. She is unable to do maths and so things like money are impossible to manage. She cannot make or receive phone calls independently. She can wash and dress herself, though she cannot manage buttons, and struggles to wash her hair. At school, she is learning to ride a bicycle properly. Nóra likes to walk with her family, but her balance is limited and she struggles with coordination. She has been to Asia, and many European countries before, and has never wandered off or got lost. Nóra is very sensitive. Outside the family, Nóra is very shy and can be quite anxious. Every night, her special time is for cuddles and a night-time story with her Mum. And she was extremely excited about the family holiday in Malaysia.”

That is the end of the statement. The family would again like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the Royal Malaysian Police, and all those searching for Nóra. Some of these people have been working all day, every day and the family cannot express their gratitude enough.

The worrying thing is that it doesn't sound as though she would be able to stray very far under her own steam.

An update.

A footprint it is believed could be Nora's has been found:

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news ... 89063.html
Footprints believed to belong to missing schoolgirl Nora Quoirin have been discovered, it has emerged.

The 15-year-old, whose mother is from Belfast, was reported missing from a holiday resort in the southern Negeri Semblian State of Malaysia on Sunday morning.

During the fifth day of searching on Thursday, dogs from the K9 Unit of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department picked up the footprints in a densely-forested search area spanning 6km around the resort.

Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar of the Fire and Rescue Department revealed the latest developments in the search at a press conference on Friday.

He said the department is optimistic that Nora, who has special needs and has been described as "very vulnerable", is within the radius of the forest.

“We are assisting the police in the search by deploying our K9 Unit, as well as 55 personnel, which include 30 from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya," he said.

“The search area remains within 6km of the resort, and our focus is on the forest. Each agency involved is divided into six groups.

“Previously, our detective canines had spotted footprints, but when we conducted a search there, we couldn’t find her."

Since Nora was reported missing, the search team trying to find her has expanded to more than 250 people, made up of police officers, fire and rescue service personnel, members of the civil defence force and others.

Drones, divers and a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera are also assisting in the search.

Police are treating Nora's disappearance as a missing person's case, however her parents believe she may have been abducted.

On Thursday, police began playing a recording of the missing teen's mother, Meabh, through loudspeakers as they carried out searches, in the hopes of finding her.

Trackers comprising indigenous tribes famed for their forest skills were also calling out Nora's name as they combed the dense forest and undergrowth surrounding the Dusun eco-resort.

Police have also released pictures of a window in the cottage where the Quoirin family were staying that was found to be open on Sunday morning.

They have also forensically examined fingerprints found in the cottage, however they have yet to determine who they belong to.

Speaking on Thursday, Nora's grandfather Sylvain Quoirin, who is closely following the case from his home in France, told of how the family is torn between "anguish and hope" as the search continues.

"Imagine a town far from everything... a girl who disappears like that... a reputable hotel, a house on a slope..." he said during a French radio interview.

He also spoke of how "sinister elements" could be at play and said Malaysia's reputation is at stake.

It seems strange that Nora would wander from the safety of her family when she relies so much on them. :s_sad

This is a fascinating, if disturbing, article, one that sadly is ominous for Nora (I think):

It appears a body has been found in the area now, and if true it's likely to be Nora isn't it. Apparently they were found somewhere inaccessible, but they could mean anything really like she fell into a crevice or was somewhere you needed a car, a locked room or where only animals could reach.

Well, they are now saying they have found a pale skinned female near a waterfall they were searching near because Nora was excited to see it on her holiday. Sounds like she fell as they are saying she is difficult to reach. I don't know how you get over this as a parent. I suppose at least they know and don't have to spend decades with the fear she is being hurt somewhere, but that's a tiny shred of comfort when your nightmare becomes reality.

So sad :s_cry wandering around the jungle hungry and terrified poor girl. They say now that a witness has come forward to say they saw a white skinned girl swimming in the river on the Sunday. It might have been Nora and it would explain why she was found naked. It is very humid in these countries she may have got in a river to cool off. Maybe she ate something poisonous, lay down feeling ill and died. It is still strange how she managed to get into the jungle with limited mobility though. Maybe walking a bit then resting and walking a bit more. She could have been hiding from the search party. My heart goes out to her family.
RIP Nora

Lucie Blackman Trust
8 hrs ·
NORA QUOIRIN – FAMILY CLARITY

The family of Nora Quoirin would like to clarify several comments that have been attributed to the family or to people claiming to act on behalf of the family.

They wish it to be made absolutely clear that the only comments and statements relating to the disappearance, death, investigation and any other matters that are actually from the family are those released via Matthew Searle of the Lucie Blackman Trust.

The family have only appointed Matthew Searle to act as a spokesman for them.

Any other comments and views are those of the speaker and do not necessarily reflect the views of the immediate family or an accurate portrayal of the facts.

The family urge media to rely on Lucie Blackman Trust statements and comments only from now on. The charity will release updates and statements when appropriate.

Nora's family are concerned that continued reporting of comments such as those recently reported are unhelpful and may hinder any investigations, as well as causing confusion and distress for them.

The Lucie Blackman Trust is arranging repatriation of Nora’s body and no further information concerning this, including dates or destinations, will be released at this point.

ENDS

Confirmed information from Lucie Blackman Trust:

Ongoing investigations in France will remain underway as is standard practice in overseas cases involving French citizens. Whilst investigations are underway we continue to urge an end to public speculation.

The police hotline remains open, and the family are still seeking any information from the public that can help to provide clarity on the events of the last 10 days.

The Lucie Blackman Trust will continue to support the family for as long as they need it with practical support such as repatriation and any other support required.

The charity can confirm that no payments were made in respect of the reward in connection with the discovery of Nóra’s body.
