My daughter walked the same route many times over until she moved out of London last July, it's left her and many of her friends shaken. I'm sickened once again by the victim blaming I see on the internet, My heart goes out to her family. RIP Sarah and condolences to your family and friends. :s_sad

Sarah Everard suspect: Met faces inquiry over indecent exposure claim
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... t-exposure

I found it very strange that the Met could trace and catch the bastard so quickly and even more strange the number of press statements they made early on in the search.

Basically they knew who did it and that it was a serving Met officer right from the start (apparently).

Couzens has not been charged with anything and the remains have not (yet) been identified.

A silver ford focus was found burnt out at the scene Honestbroker I'm wondering if he'd tried to destroy all forensic evidence by means of fire.
Given the short timeframe and weather surely there would not of been that much decomposition making her unidentifiable :s_sad

He should of been suspended and wouldn't of had reason to be in the vicinity and this young woman would still be here today going about her business.
Heads will roll for this or there will be an outcry!!
It's all on CCTV taken in the fast food shop of him exposing himself to the women shop workers. They rightly reported it so why wasn't this bastard suspended :s_dunno

I think charges will follow soon HB given the police knew to look eighty miles away from Couzens home they must of been given that information or followed an electronic trail left by him. Have they already applied to be granted extra time to question him do we know?
He will have to go before the court won't he within days to be formally charged?

The Telegraph has just filed this report on Wayne Couzens:
Just hours before his arrest on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering missing Sarah Everard, Wayne Couzens had been at work keeping politicians and VIPs safe as part of the Metropolitan Police's elite Diplomatic Protection Command.

But not long after Mr Couzens got in from work, arriving back at the neat home he shares with his wife in Deal, Kent, following the two-hour drive from London, there was a knock at the door.

Scotland Yard colleagues from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command informed him that he was being arrested in connection with the disappearance of 33-year-old Miss Everard (pictured below), who had gone missing without trace six days earlier in south London. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and also of an unrelated indecent exposure.

‘A wonderful father’
Friends, neighbours and family of Mr Couzens could not believe that the former mechanic and devoted family man was being linked with the disappearance of a young woman.

Speaking to The Telegraph from her home in Kirovograd, 300 miles south of Kiev, Nina Sukhoreba, Mr Couzens’s mother-in-law, (pictured below) expressed her shock.

“He could not do anything like this. He is a wonderful family man, a wonderful man. This just sounds crazy to me.”

She said since marrying her daughter in 2006, Mr Couzens, 49, had been striving to learn Ukrainian and had visited the country every year.

Shortly before Mr Couzens’s arrest, his wife had spoken to her mother, who lives in a remote part of Ukraine, and updated her on news of their two children returning to school after the lockdown was lifted.

“I talked to my daughter just yesterday and she didn’t tell me anything. She said Wayne was at work and everything was fine.

“He is a wonderful father. He came to visit with the children and we all walked to the river and he helped me at home and in the garden.

“Due to coronavirus they didn’t come this year. I visited them two years ago in the UK. Everything is fine there. Yesterday I literally talked to my daughter and she told me that everything is fine.”

Firearms training
Born in Dover, Kent, in 1972, Mr Couzens was the eldest of two boys, whose family ran a garage and car body shop. He worked in the business along with his brother but they both left to pursue a career in policing and the garage closed down.

He first joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, where he underwent firearms training, working as part of the team protecting Dungeness Nuclear Power station close to where he lived in Kent.

But he later transferred to the Metropolitan Police, where he was able to use his firearms expertise to join the elite Diplomatic Protection Group.

Based in Westminster, the unit is tasked with protecting MPs and other dignitaries in and around the capital.

‘Perfect family’
Neighbours in Deal described them as being the perfect family who doted on their two children.

Hairdresser Kerry Slade, 56, said she had last seen them on Monday when she spotted their young daughter in her uniform, ready for her first day back at school.

She said: “They are just a nice normal family. I think they moved in between three and five years ago. I spoke to the woman whenever I passed the house as she was always very chatty.

“The last time I saw them was when I was walking the dog at about 8.30am on Monday and I saw the little girl in her school uniform.

“I know the man has had building stuff in his garden getting work done recently. He is a police officer. I saw him in his uniform. He was a biker and you’d often see him in the garage working on his motorbike.”

Another neighbour described how Mr Couzens had been led out of his home at around 8.30pm.

I can't help thinking that he's most likely done this before, you don't suddenly decide to abduct and murder someone at the age of 48 surely :s_no

A source today told The Standard: "It’s definitely not that police did nothing about the indecent exposure or that they turned a blind eye to a crime by a colleague. But the question will be whether the case was progressed quickly enough."
Hindsight is, of course, a wonderful thing, but the answer would seem to be 'no'.

A serving Met Police officer has been charged with the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard, who disappeared as she walked home in south London.

The 33-year-old's body was found in woodland in Kent more than a week after she was last spotted on 3 March.

Wayne Couzens, 48, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with her murder.

Serving Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens has been charged with the murder of marketing executive Sarah Everard.

Scotland Yard said on Wednesday night that human remains had been found in an area of woodland in Ashford in Kent by detectives investigating the 33-year-old's disappearance. On Friday the Met Police confirmed they were Ms Everard's.

The serving police officer, 49, who works in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command had been arrested on suspicion of Ms Everard's kidnap on Tuesday night.

This was later upgraded to murder and a separate charge of indecent exposure on Wednesday.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of special crime at the CPS, said: "Following a referral of evidence by the Metropolitan Police related to the death of Sarah Everard, the CPS has authorised the police to charge Wayne Couzens with murder and kidnapping.

"He will appear at Westminster magistrates' court tomorrow (13 March) for his first hearing.

"The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges to a court to consider.

"Criminal proceedings are now active and nothing should be published that could jeopardise the defendant's right to a fair trial."

Marketing executive Ms Everard vanished while walking home from a friend's flat in south London last Wednesday, Mar 3.

Ms Everard is thought to have walked through Clapham Common towards her house in Brixton - a journey which should have taken around 50 minutes.

She was last captured on a doorbell camera walking along the A205 Poynders Road towards Tulse Hill at around 9.30pm on March 3.

Met Commissioner Cressida Dick sought to reassure the public in the wake of Wednesday's developments, saying "it is thankfully incredibly rare for a woman to be abducted from our streets".

She added: "But I completely understand that despite this, women in London and the wider public - particularly those in the area where Sarah went missing - will be worried and may well be feeling scared."

The Met said the arrested officer's main job was uniformed patrol of diplomatic premises, but would not specify where he had worked. He was not on duty at the time of Ms Everard's disappearance.

The diplomatic protection squad is responsible for guarding the Parliamentary estate including Downing Street and the Palace of Westminster, as well as embassies in London.

Pc Couzens will appear at Westminster magistrates' court Court on Saturday March 13.

I am not going to comment on how, where and her condition when she was found because it is unthinkable that a woman just walking home could end up in this way.

The bastard is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty. They should either strap him to a bed or put him in a padded cell to make sure he faces justice and does not try to take the easy way out. 24 hour camera and monitoring of him I hope.

There was a tribute in one of the daily papers to Sarah that made me smile: thoughtful, kind, sweet, capable, rubbish at at karaoke, but brilliant at everything else ...
