Interactive map to locate cats

More than 4000 cats are already registered in Portugal.

There is an online interactive map that is trying to join the location of all cats in the world. The 'I Know Where Your Cat Lives' ('I Know Where Your Cat's Lives', in Portuguese) project was born at the University of Florida, USA, but has gradually achieved record the location of the animals in the four corners of the planet.

In Portugal, more than four thousand cats are already logged in 'I Know Where Your Cat Lives': 478 in the South, in 2271 in the center and the north in 1526. Altogether, the map already has the location of more than one million cats scattered throughout the world.

Owen Mundy, the designer and programmer at the University of Florida who created the interactive map, the site explains who can get the location of each cat through 'tags' - such as the word 'cat' ('cat' in Portuguese) - that people will leave on social networking sites like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

After identifying the 'tags' and the respective location data for each user are arranged and cats are locatable by geographical coordinates.

The artist explained, speaking to 'The Atlantic', that his ultimate goal is not able to register all cats on the Internet, but reveal the degree of information that each user exposes on social networks. However, Owen Mundy ensures that he puts online the only the locations permitted by the owners of cats.

Parent-blaming is all-too-common these days, and usually the point is to make other parents feel better about their own parenting skills
