What happened to those bones? Were they ever properly examined?
If I remember correctly the bones found were deemed to be too small to be human.

Madeleine McCann prime suspect visited reservoir ‘days after she vanished’
Informant said to have told German police that Christian Brueckner made a trip to a location currently being searched by investigators

The prime suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance visited the Algarve reservoir just days after the girl vanished, a source close to the Portuguese investigation has said.

Christian Brueckner was said to have gone to a promontory at the Arade dam, currently being searched by police, “some days” after the three-year-old went missing in May 2007.

German detectives are understood to have been told by a “very credible” source who knew Brueckner that he had visited the reservoir, an area he called his “little paradise”, in his camper van.

The Barragem do Arade is about 30 miles from the Praia da Luz resort where the girl disappeared while on holiday with Kate and Gerry McCann, her parents, 16 years ago.

On Wednesday, more than 30 Portuguese and German police extended their search of the headland at the reservoir, as heavy-duty brush-cutting equipment was brought in to strip out shrubs and clear a large swathe for searches.

Brueckner, who has denied any involvement in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, was identified as a murder suspect in June 2020
The search was expected to move into its third day as the Portuguese source insisted German officers had drawn up a detailed map of key locations, some still untouched. The source added that the site could be linked to other crimes the prolific s-e-x offender has committed.

Meanwhile in Germany, Christian Wolters, the Braunschweig prosecutor, stressed that the searches were not based on any confession, but very strong “indications” that the site was of significance.

In an interview with NDR, the German public service broadcaster, he said: “We have indications that we could find evidence there. I don’t want to say what that is exactly, and I also don’t want to say where these indications came from.

“The only thing that I would clarify is that it doesn’t come from the suspect. So, we don’t have a confession or anything similar now, or an indication from the suspect of where it would make sense to search.

“It was other indications that prompted us to conduct the search.”

His comments underlined how the German authorities were taking seriously the informant’s claims that Brueckner had gone to the reservoir shortly after Madeleine’s disappearance.

While it is not known who the source is, former friends of the German national have previously played a key role in telling police of his alleged crimes.

Two of his friends told detectives that they had found a videotape at the farmhouse where he lived on the outskirts of Praia da Luz showing a rape and two other s-e-x attacks. The tape has not been recovered.

Brueckner, who has denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, was identified as a murder suspect in June 2020. He has a long history of crimes, including petty theft and drug trafficking to the sexual abuse of children.

In 2019, he was convicted in Germany of the sadistic rape of a 72-year-old American tourist after breaking into her villa half a mile from the McCanns’ holiday apartment in 2006. He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence and is due for release in three years’ time.

Scotland Yard and German police claimed that Brueckner’s mobile telephone received a 30-minute call close to the McCanns’ holiday apartment an hour before Madeleine disappeared.

On Wednesday, officers used powerful strimmers and a heavy-duty brush cutter to remove shrubs before the area was raked and pored over by sniffer dogs.

Some items, including items of clothing, were believed to have been bagged and removed by officers.

However, none have been identified as potentially linking to the missing girl.

Emergency services and officials from Portugal, Germany and the UK have been seen holding briefings near blue police tents at the scene.

It was believed that German police have found numerous pictures Brueckner took of himself at the waterside at Barragem do Arade.

It was also believed that the images were found on a USB stick and laptop both seized from a derelict factory he owns in Germany.

yesterday:

Prosecutor Christian Wolters, from Braunschweig, Germany, told broadcaster NDR that the information did not come from the suspect and that there was "no confession or anything similar", and that police were not necessarily looking for McCann's remains in the Arade. .

"We never said that the girl disappeared from the place where we are now looking," he said.

The Portuguese police in charge of the search declined to comment.

about ”Ultimately, the public prosecutor's office is not only required to find incriminating material, but also exonerating material.

in my opinion the searches in that dam are more to exonerating material then to prove anything related with Madeleine.

Traces found in the searches for Maddie at the Arade dam will be sent to Germany

Traces found in the searches for Maddie at the Arade dam will be sent to Germany
Searches at the Arade dam, in Silves, in the context of the Maddie McCann case, a girl who disappeared in 2007, have ended. The traces found will be analyzed in Germany, the country that requested the operations.

The steps began on Monday and were extended until this Thursday due to adverse weather conditions, which will have made the work difficult. This is the biggest operation carried out in recent years regarding the disappearance of the British child.

Authorities conducted searches on land and in water. Correio da Manhã knows that trees were cut down to make excavations in the land. They tried to look for irregularities in the land, to see if they found mortal remains or something connected to Maddie.

According to Correio da Manhã , a relevant clue was found this Thursday. Several inspectors were seen concentrated in a specific area in the place where the searches took place

At the end of the day, the balance of the Judiciary Police (PJ) through a statement or press conference will account for what was recovered.

So far, there are no indications that the traces collected are related to the English girl. This Friday it is known whether what has already been found will be cataloged and analyzed.

The searches, carried out by the PJ and requested by the German authorities, were attended by the British authorities. Civil Protection, Firefighters and GNR also assisted in the steps.

During the first day of work, the police searched for fibers from Maddie's pajamas . State-of-the-art technology and trail dogs were also used to detect human remains in that area.

The Arade dam is located 50 kilometers from Praia da Luz, where Maddie disappeared 16 years ago. It became a point of interest for the authorities after it was found that the main suspect, Christian Bruckner, went there relatively frequently.

German investigators believe it is possible that the girl was killed in the dam and thrown into the water. The German did not confess to the crimes.

Maddie McCann, remember, disappeared 16 years ago in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, while on vacation with her family. She was only three years old. After years of investigations and trails followed, the case remains unsolved.

Always accompanied by their German and English colleagues, inspectors from the Judiciária found some traces — none of them biological — which, due to their nature, should not be of great importance.

After three days, the authorities did not find any biological trace of Maddie McCann in the Arade dam – and even what was found will not have any added relevance, the Observer found out from a source close to the investigation.

The mega search operation at the Arade dam was requested by the German authorities, as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Maddie McCann and ended early this Thursday afternoon. After about 72 hours since the mobilization of means and equipment for that location, the large blue tents of the Judiciary began to be dismantled after lunchtime and several cars left the site with material and men.

Policia Judiciaria
Following the statement of May 22, 2023, the Judiciary Police informs that the steps requested by the German authorities, through a request for international cooperation, have been completed, which resulted in the collection of some material that will be subject to the competent expertise. .

The operation was coordinated by the Judiciary Police, which involved investigators, criminal experts and security personnel.

The works had the participation of the German authorities (BKA) and were attended by British authorities (MPS).

The Judiciary Police also relied on the extraordinary collaboration of the Faro Command of the National Republican Guard in various aspects, as well as the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Algarve and the Municipality of Silves, with regard to the logistics necessary for the development of the work.

Safeguarding the interests of the ongoing investigation in Portugal, the collected material will be delivered to the German authorities, in accordance with the rules of international judicial cooperation.

"We haven't found anything which would exonerate him. We've found nothing which would rule him out. We haven't yet disclosed all the evidence against him and we don't want to do that now.

"Of course, you can rightly assume that within the last three years various pieces of the puzzle were added but it's ncommenting on the investigation, Mr Wolters said: "Nothing has changed with regard to our suspect in the last three years. We have found nothing in the last three years that would contradict our suspicion.
ot the right time for us to publish that."

German authorities have previously declined to say what triggered the new search but said they were acting on the basis of "certain tips".

with all do respect, although I´m not making excuses for his crimes, just because he was with his campervan around the area after his release, it does not prove his involverment, if you read carefully the link above, those searches were more related with other of his crimes only.

"It “may serve for other investigations concerning Brückner, and this is why it was delivered to German authorities (…)"

prison for fuel theft is one thing, prison for rape is another completely different. these types of crimes do not mix.

We know him living in his campervan around the area doesn't prove guilt.
None of us have any idea what information the BKA have on CB but time will deter if he is guilty or not.

...........

The MET attended the searches because.........
The British police confirmed that they have agents present in Portugal to assist in the searches related to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and keep the family informed.
London Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell revealed that the force "continues to work and support its colleagues in Portugal and Germany in their investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann".

The official thanked "the Judicial Police and the Bundeskriminalamt" for allowing the British police "to be present while their work is taking place, so that they can inform Madeleine's family of any developments".

I think you might find that they were handed to the Germans due to the rules of international cooperation .

until now nothing relevant was found about Madeleine.

RTP national news adds that it “knows that nothing relevant was found”.

What will be on its way to Germany for said analysis “will not be related with Maddie”, RTP agrees. It “may serve for other investigations concerning Brückner, and this is why it was delivered to German authorities (…).

in my opinion, those searches had only one purpose: to be eliminated from the inquiry, which will allow to proceed in the investigation.

It is still unclear what the search operation requested by the BKA not far from a Portuguese reservoir will bring to light in the case of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in 2007.

BRUNSWICK. The Braunschweig public prosecutor wants to evaluate the results from Portugal together with the BKA. That could take days.

After the renewed search in the case of Madeleine "Maddie" McCann , who disappeared in southern Portugal 16 years ago, the responsible public prosecutor's office in Braunschweig expressed reluctance to publish possible investigation results. Prosecutor Christian Wolters told our newspaper on Friday that they would first "evaluate the action and then discuss the next steps" together with the officers deployed from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA ). According to Wolters, the BKA employees are currently returning from Portugal.

Wolters has not yet been able to definitively say when the public will be informed. That also depends on the results, which have not yet been transmitted. We may know more next Thursday, Wolters said. The spokesman for the public prosecutor's office also left open whether anything of value was found at all.

The BKA also refrained from making an official statement on Thursday as to whether any clues could be found that could help clarify the mysterious disappearance of the little British girl. The request from the German authorities led to the search being restarted on Tuesday. According to official information, police officers from Portugal, Germany and Great Britain took part in the action at a reservoir not far from the municipality of Silves.

According to Bild nothing of any consequence was found
However, the claim by the Portuguese newspaper “ Correio da Manha ” that “relevant information” had been found does not match the information available to BILD.

The evaluation of the finds will take a few more days. It is not to be expected that the decisive evidence that convicts the murderer is there.

The " Daily Mail" had reported that investigators were looking for a weapon and a video camera, among other things, that had been stolen during a burglary from suspect Christian Brückner (46) in 2007.

According to BILD information, that is also not true.
